BSU acted as a platform for the scientific and practical part of the Baikal International Demographic Forum. Scientists and experts at sectional meetings discussed in detail the socio-demographic and ecological-geographical factors of sustainable development of the territories, the role of the largest agglomerations in the demographic landscape, as well as barriers and prospects for the implementation of economic projects in small and medium-sized cities.

- Intellectual property in science and business:
Within the framework of the forum, a specialized seminar was organized by the law firm Gorodissky and Partners. Leading experts-practitioners discussed with students the features of intellectual property management in modern universities: from the creation of promising developments and the legal distribution of rights to effective mechanisms for interaction with industrial partners.
BSU teachers also shared their experience with colleagues. Expert opinion on the commercialization of the results of intellectual activity was expressed by and. about. Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities of the University, Ph.D. Lyudmila Sanina. Also within the framework of this section, the rector of BSU, Doctor of Law Oleg Gribunov spoke. The high level of interaction on the site pushed the partners to the initiative to continue active cooperation with BSU in the field of intellectual property.
- Quality of life and spatial development of regions:
Scientists were interested in the round table "The role of quality of life, inequality and spatial mobility in the demographic development of Russian regions." The work of the section was led by Konstantin Grigorichev, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Forum - Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Chief Researcher of the Federal Research Center of IRikh SB RAS. Russian and foreign scientists presented reports on migration processes and mechanisms for overcoming territorial inequality.
The high organizational level and interdisciplinary nature of the forum emphasizes the authoritative composition of its founders. The organizing committee includes: the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Government of the Irkutsk Region, the Institute for Demographic Research of the Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Economics and Organization of Industrial Production of the SB RAS, Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry named after A.E. Favorsky SB RAS and Irkutsk State University.
