Universities have always been pioneers of reform and development, disseminating new knowledge and innovations. Teachers have chosen the areas of study, educational programs and disciplines to be studied based on the needs of society.

Now the Academic Council of the University and the Academic Councils of the institutes have more opportunities to determine the directions of training specialists, to independently plan and improve the educational process, to search for new forms of education.

This allows to effectively use the achievements of the best world universities in the training and education of thinking, highly educated specialists who will be able to join the intellectual elite of their country and the world.

Corporate solidarity among students and alumni is one of the main traditions of modern universities, especially Asian universities.

From the first day a student is surrounded by the care of the university administration, department and institute, fellow countrymen and senior students who help him to adapt.

After graduation, many graduates continue to work with departments, institutes, departments and teachers. They send their children and grandchildren to study at BSU. Alumni allocate funds for additional and personal scholarships for students, promote their employment.

Friendship and life in a multinational student family helps in future graduates to interact with each other, in professional, business and social activities.

Continuity is one of the main traditions of BSU. The University cherishes the memory of the leadership, teachers and staff who were at the origins of its creation. A BSU history hall has been created at the university.

The overwhelming majority of current heads of the university, directors of institutes, and heads of departments are BSU graduates. Moreover, it is also a tradition - the best graduates stay to work and make a career at the university.

Ever since the Medieval times, when an wandering scholar or student was a common phenomenon in university life, and no wars or natural disasters could stop the process of communication, the importance of intercultural communication continues to be relevant.

BSU offers educational programs in Bachelor's and Master's degrees in “Linguistics” with the study of several foreign languages and specialization program “ Interpreting and Translation Studies”, the graduates of which become professional translators.

At other educational programs of higher education, the educational process is based on the in-depth study of foreign languages: European languages (English, German, French) and/or Oriental languages (Chinese, Korean, Japanese), as well as cultures and traditions of the countries of the studied language.

For international students, in addition to the Bachelor's degree program “Russian as a Foreign Language”, the University offers preparatory annual and short-term courses of Russian language study, including the study of Russian culture and traditions with any level of Russian language proficiency.

The International Department and the departments of foreign languages annually organize international conferences on the problems of intercultural communication, as well as holidays and weeks of foreign cultures for BSU students and residents of Irkutsk.
