The leaders of Russia and China on May 20 launched the opening of the Years of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of education.
According to President Vladimir Putin, "quality education forms the basis for the development of the individual and the whole society, for self-realization and professional growth of people, otherwise economic progress is unthinkable, it is impossible to create a truly united, strong and truly sovereign state."
A reception was held in Irkutsk in honor of Russian graduates educated in China, organized by the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Irkutsk.
In the presence of distinguished guests of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Russian Federation Zhang Hanhui, Consul General Liu Yu, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Andrei Denisov, Governor Igor Kobzev, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Alexander Vedernikov, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Irkutsk Alexei Kotelnikov noted the leading role of universities in strategic intercountry cooperation, which actually strengthen and deepen the agreements reached at the highest level.
Baikal University has been consistently developing relations with the People's Republic of China for many years, implementing 26 cooperation agreements.
The reception was attended by the university management, graduates of Obukhova Polina, Berezina Anastasia, Likhareva Olga, Belyakova Veronika, students of double diploma programs Larina Alina, Plyusnina Anna, Shamaeva Daria, Goncharuk Valeria, Kobyakova Polina, teachers Leonov Maxim, Sizykh Maria.
Rector Oleg Gribunov noted: "We are proud of our graduates working in China and acting as a "soft power" that builds bridges of friendship and promotes Russian culture. At the same time, they are always happy when they continue their activities in Russia, including within the walls of the Baikal University as teachers.
