BSU students took part in the scientific and practical conference “Republic of Korea: History and Modernity”. The event was held at the Institute of Philology and Foreign Languages of Irkutsk State University with the support of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Irkutsk. Participants from different cities presented reports on the economy, culture and international relations of the Republic of Korea, and also discussed the difficulties of translation from Korean into Russian.

Second-year students of the Institute of World Economy and International
Relations of BSU Maria Kachura and Alina Saidova participated in this event for
the second time. Maria Kachura continued the study of the unofficial Korean
anthem - the song “Ariran”, and Alina Saidova prepared a report on the
peculiarities of traditional Korean dance. Alina Orlova, a third-year student of
the BSU Institute of Finance Management, also took part in the conference with
her report “Standards of female beauty on the Korean Peninsula”.
According to Korean language teacher Maria Shalunova, the 2024 conference
program was even more intense than in the past.
“During the conference, the guys exchanged opinions on many issues important
for modern Korean studies. This time students had a unique opportunity to listen
to lectures not only from leading Korean scholars from Russian universities
(Moscow State University, FEFU), but also from Korean professors (Incheon
National University). In addition, the children were given a cultural excursion
“How to put on a hanbok correctly”.
Thanks to this event, the participants learned a lot about Korean culture.
Alina Orlova noted that she was glad to participate in the conference. She
especially remembered the experience of communicating in Korean with
representatives of the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Irkutsk.
“The opportunity to listen to lectures by leading Korean scholars is a chance
in a million: Such events allow you to learn something new, develop professional
skills, and, therefore, can contribute to becoming highly qualified
specialists,” said student Maria Kachura.
