The Russian Student Parade was held in Irkutsk on September 14. 770 activists of Baikal State University took part in the solemn procession along the main streets of the city. Traditionally, students of our university are distinguished by their large number, brightness and creativity.
Loud music, university flags and corporate shouting - the celebration of the students' day began on the square of Count Speransky. At 12 o'clock the column of 8000 students started the procession along Lenin Street and marched along Karl Marx Street to the monument to Alexander III.
The celebration began with the performance of the Russian anthem by the “Baikal Brass Assembly” consisting of military bands from Chita and Rostov-on-Don. Then the guests of honor represented by representatives of the Irkutsk Mayor's Office, the Irkutsk Region Government and rectors of the city's leading universities addressed thousands of students. Among them was also the acting rector of BSU - Oleg Gribunov:
“It is very pleasant that more than 700 people from our Baikal State University and our College take part in this parade. The first year takes control of the life of the university in their hands. And we can see that these are very active guys. They are ready to get the skills and competencies for which they came to our university”.
Igor Kobzev, Governor of the Irkutsk Region, made a welcoming speech. Together with the Council of Rectors, he prepared and signed a farewell message for the students. All the activists present heard and agreed with the “Message for freshmen”.
“Now you are real students. Learn and develop yourselves. Always strive for self-improvement. And make friends. Student friendship is so strong that it will stay with you for life.” - addressed Igor Kobzev.
The Ministry of Youth Policy of the region prepared an entertaining program for students. On the Lower Embankment there was an initiation for first-year students, a solemn recitation of the Russian Student Oath and a group raising of the Russian flag.
Activists from different universities not only took part in the grand events, but also organized an action “Students of Irkutsk to the Children of Kursk”, which collected humanitarian aid for the Kursk region.
