Today within the framework of the Academic Council Vice-Rector for International Relations of BSU Mikhail Kuz’min represented the report “ About the results of the university international activity in 2022”
In 2022 geography of foreign students at Baikal State University has expanded due to the admission of students from Morocco, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa. In total, 395 foreign students from such neighboring countries as Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Moldova, Armenia, as well as from non CIS-countries – Morocco, Vietnam, India, Colombia, Ecuador, Indonesia, France, South Korea, etc. study at BSU. Stillmore than 55 % of foreign students are from the People’s Republic of China.
“The main achievement of 2022 is the fact, that instead of decrease in the enrollment of foreigners, typical for many Russian universities, thanks to well-coordinated work of the International relations department, we managed to increase the number of the foreign first year students by 50 % compared to 2021 and by 100 % compared to 2020 year. Moreover Baikal State University was honored with an International Award of the Eurasian Association of Eastern European Universities for achievements in the development of international cooperation, increase in the foreign students enrollment rates, development of multilingual internet resources ” – noted Mikhail Kuz’min.
In 2022 Baikal State University signed cooperation agreements with 7 partners – universities from China, Mongolia and Tajikistan. Among them is Shandong Professional Institute of Foreign Languages, in which the Center for Chinese and Russian Cooperation is going to be created and students of BSU will study at.
Baikal State University has significantly strengthened vocational guidance work in 2022. More than 40 meetings with the representatives of partner universities, schools and foreign applicants from China, Mongolia, countries of Latin America and countries of South East Asia were held. Career guidance events and recreational activities for foreign students and BSU graduates were also held to consolidate students in the university. Active promotion of BSU brand abroad and strengthening positions in Russian and international ratings was done due to these actions.
Five international conferences and exhibitions were held in 2022. As Mikhail Kuz’min noticed, the main prospects for international activities are expanding ties with foreign organizations from friendly countries, including through Rossotrudnichestvo, development of export product line in BSU, creation of new summer and winter schools, improving the quality of the foreign contingent and growth in income from international activities.
