From January 29 to February 2 the International Youth Winter School CIRP-2023
on “ The Arctic in the Era of Global Change” was held in Veliky Novgorod. The
school was organized by Center of International and Regional Policy (CIRP) with
grant support of Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Support Fund, MGIMO, Russian Foreign
Ministry and a number of other organizations.
The experts from Russia, the USA, Norway and Finland took part in thematic
discussions. About 60 students and postgraduates became participants on a
competitive basis, among whom was the 4-th year BSU student of “International
Relations” course Prokhin Sergey.
A lot of issues were discussed during the school: future Arctic cooperation,
development of transport transit Arctic potential, ensuring the international
security, problems of militarization, tourist attractiveness of the Russian
Arctic territories. The participants represented their analysis and vision of
the most successful forms of cooperation in the Arctic.
As Sergey notices, “Such schools, organized by various organizations and
supported by Russian Funds, give a great opportunity for students to expand
their horizons in terms of gaining new knowledge, building social connections,
search for new friends and like-minded people. It’s very pleasing, that they
actively involve young people in the search for solutions to complex issues of
cooperation, logistics and security in the Arctic, because the responsibility
for the future of our country lies on our shoulders.”
