BSU students went on a press tour for a "Night at the Museum"

The international action "Night at the Museum" took place in the Irkutsk Regional Museum named after N.N. Muravyev-Amursky. It is designed to involve the public in visiting museums. The mystery of the event is given by the fact of visiting the exhibition at nighttime, when the event gets completely different colors from the usual ones.

The "Night at the Museum" campaign is of particular importance. On the day of its holding, employees of all museums of the world work at night. This action unites museum workers and visitors around a common goal – to distract from everyday life. For the first time the action was held in 1997 in Berlin, and by 2005 year, more than 39 countries took part in it. It all started small, but eventually grew into a large event that unites thousands of people.

In Russia, the campaign has been held since 2002. For the first time, one of the Krasnoyarsk museums took part in it. Over time, other cities also joined in. For several years, Irkutsk museums have been opening their doors to visitors of night exhibitions every year. The part of Irkutsk museums in the event is the same as that of others – aiding the traditions of night exhibitions, cultural education of visitors and showing the world from a different, unusual angle.

Irkutsk Local History Museum invited BSU students to a press tour of its Irkutsk branch. Students were able to attend lectures and presentations, quizzes and quests, master classes and excursions for adults and children both.

Each department has prepared its own unique program. In the history department, together with the visitors, we took part in the game "What? Where? ... Museum? » which was especially liked by teenagers, and after they watched the documentary "Oasis". The Museum Studio exhibition department hosted a quiz on the museum's exhibitions and the quest "Tea Fever", where guests were told about the peculiarities of tea drinking of different peoples and tea ways. In the exhibition department "Window to Asia", the participants of the action played the traditional Japanese game called “tosenke”and attended a master class on painting miniatures, where everyone could paint military figures. The Nature Department held interesting games for children, which clearly showed how people lived and had fun in ancient times. Each child at the master class was able to make for himself a unique bracelet made of artificial pieces of wool, create a picture of plasticine or play interesting games.

There also were evening walking and bus tours of historical places of Irkutsk. The participants visited the Church of the Savior, the Cathedral of the Epiphany, the Znamensky Convent and other ancient buildings located in the city center. Thanks to the two-hour tour, Irkutsk residents were able to learn a lot about the places they pass by every day.

Irkutsk Local History Museum on the day of the action worked until the evening. Each department had a large number of visitors. The guests of the museum learned a lot about interesting things in Irkutsk, its history, culture and features.
