BSU and China University of Geosciences signed a cooperation agreement

A solemn ceremony of signing the cooperation agreement between Baikal State University and Beijing University of Geosciences was held online at BSU.

The ceremony was attended by the administration of the both universities. Vice-Rector for International Relations of BSU, Mikhail P. Kuz'min, acted as a moderator of the meeting. In his welcoming speech, he noted the importance of signing the agreement in the year of Chinese-Russian scientific, technological and innovation cooperation.

For 70 years, Beijing University of Geosciences has been training highly qualified personnel in Geography, Geology, Mining and other technical fields, as well as graduated future economists, lawyers, managers and envinronmentalists. The Chinese side is interested in strengthening ties with Baikal State University on a mutually beneficial basis regarding all the areas of scientific and educational activities.

Rector of Baikal State University, Prof. Victor V. Ignatenko, gave a presentation focusing on the main areas of the university's activities. He underlined that despite the difficult global situation, BSU is effectively developing cooperation with China and participates as part of the "One Belt - One Road" initiative. BSU actively cooperates with Chines universities in scientific and educational activities. Since 2017, the university has been published a scientific journal "Russian-Chinese Studies". BSU implements a wide range of double degree programs with Shenyang Polytechnic University, Beijing University of Foreign Economics and Trade, and Manchurian Institute of the Russian Language".

Baikal State University is a member of such prestigious international associations as University Alliance of the Silk Road, "One Belt - One Road" initiative Alliance of Universities, Association of Sino-Russian Economic Universities and many others.

Rector of China University of Geosciences, Mr. Sun Youhong, spoke about the university's history and future areas of cooperation.

Beijing University of Geosciences (CUG) was founded in 1952. The university has a strong focus on geology, mineral extraction and envinronmental protection. The university has about 17 thousand students. It has academic exchange programs with over 220 partner universities around the world. In 1993, the university opened a School of Economics and Management, which offers a wide range of programs in Economics, Law, Business Management, Accounting and Information Systems.

"We hope to perform various international cooperation projects in the field of implementation of joint educational programs, research and innovation activities. I believe that our universities hand in hand will train talented students of the two countries, improving internuniversity cooperation and strengthening friendship between Russia and China".

At the signing ceremony, Mr. Cao Yunlong , Chinese Consul General in Irkutsk, expressed confidence in successful cooperation between one of Beijing's leading universities and Baikal State University. He noted the importance of signing the agreement and expressed readiness to provide comprehensive assistance in the development of interuniversity cooperation.

"We are planning a promising cooperation with this university. In the near future, we are going to create a double-degree program in Economics and Management, and to develop scientific cooperation in the fields of Economics, Management and Law", said Viktor V. Ignatenko.
