By a collegian decision of executive committee members of the University Alliance of the Silk Road, Baikal State University was accepted as a member of one of the leading international associations.

The invitation to join the Alliance was received by the university more than a year ago, however up to the present moment, BSU had an observer status.

The University Alliance of the Silk Road is a non-governmental and non-profit organization aimed at promoting of international cooperation in the field of science and higher education. It was established in 2015 by Xi'an Transport University to support the Chinese Government's foreign policy iniative named "One belt - One Road". UASR brings together higher education institutions from countries along the historic Silk Road.

As noted by Mikhail P. Kuz'min, Vice-Rector for International Relations of BSU, since applying for membership in the Alliance, the university staff have participated in a wide range of international events organized by both the executive committee of the Association and its members. They presented reports on BSU's role in the development of Russian-Chinese scientific and educational cooperation, as well as on opportunities to promote the university in the Chinese market of educational services.

More than 150 universities from 38 countries are currently members of the Alliance, including such leading universities as City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Newcastle University, Technical University of Berlin, National University of Singapore, Xi'an Transport University, California State University Northridge, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Moscow Polytechnic University and many others.

"BSU's membership at this international association is of great importance. As the Alliance is a global platform uniting five continents, it opens new opportunities for the university to implement the larger international events, to develop academic mobility, and to strengthen its ranking position and global positioning", emphasized Mikhail P. Kuz'min.
