The first cosmonaut of Mongolia Zhugderdemidiin Gurragcha visited BSU

The distinguished guest arrived at BSU at the invitation of the rector, Professor Oleg Gribunov. The day before, they took part together in the work of the Baikal Ecological Forum. The first cosmonaut of the Mongolian People's Republic and the 101st cosmonaut of the world gladly responded to the offer to visit the university.

"Many prominent economic and financial figures of Mongolia were educated at BSU. I came to visit you with great interest. I see how sensitive you are to the history of relations between our countries, I am very pleased and thank you for this," Zhugderdemidiin Gurragcha shared with the journalists of the BSU Media Center.

Currently, the legendary cosmonaut heads the Russian-Mongolian Friendship Society and is a senior researcher at the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. Oleg Pavlovich gave Gurragche a tour of the university - he visited the Center for Oriental Studies and the University Museum, where he left a memorable entry in the Book of Honored Guests. There I got acquainted with thematic exhibitions that were opened for the International Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mongolia, which was recently held at BSU. Part of the exposition was devoted to space topics.

At the end of the visit, the astronaut visited a memorial exposition opened during the International Conference, dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding graduate of BSU, a prominent statesman and politician Yumzhagiin Tsedenbal.

Zhugderdemidiin Gurragcha sincerely thanked the leadership of BSU for the hospitality and invited representatives of the university on a return visit to Mongolia.

BSU Rector Oleg Gribunov emphasized the special significance of this meeting for the university and expressed confidence in the further strengthening of bilateral ties.

"For Baikal State University, Mongolia has always been and remains an important strategic partner. We are sincerely pleased with our many years of productive cooperation in the educational, scientific and cultural spheres. Our university is proud of its Mongolian graduates, and we will make every effort to develop these strong friendly and academic ties, opening up new horizons for students of both countries," Oleg Gribunov summed up.
