The delegation of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Irkutsk headed by the Consul General, Mr. Li Hai met with the management of Baikal State University. The acquaintance began with a dialog in the conference room of the rectorate. The main topic of the conversation was Russian-Chinese cooperation in education.
Cooperation between Baikal University and Chinese universities has been going on for more than thirty years. BSU is a member of five prestigious international associations related to China, is a co-founder of the Association of Russian-Chinese Economic Universities, implements four double degree programs with Chinese partners, and publishes the journal "Russian-Chinese Studies". The number of foreign students wishing to study Russian is growing every year, and this very fact has become the reason for Baikal State University to expand and strengthen its ties with China.
After the meeting, the Consul General and his entourage were given a tour of the Baikal State University campus, including a demonstration of the TV and radio studio of the BSU Media Center.
"The TV studio of your university made a deep impression on us. I have been to many universities in China and Russia, but not many had their own studio, it is very impressive," said the Consul General.
Consul General Li Hai thanked the rector for the invitation and noted that BSU is one of the leading universities that has been developing close cooperation with China for a long time.
The Consul General's visit resulted in several agreements.
"The agreements were reached on joint career guidance activities in those regions of China and in those universities with which our university already cooperates. At the same time we agreed to develop cooperation with new educational organizations in the south of China", - said Vice-Rector for BSU International Relation Mikhail Kuz’min.
Baikal State University plans to further development of its international relations and, of course, China remains one of the main directions of cooperation.
