This year for the first time Baikal State University became a part of it, entering the list of 1183 best universities in the world.
Within the framework of this rating, universities are evaluated according to such indicators as the development of the spheres of international cooperation, education and scientific research, as well as the compliance of the university with the policy of sustainable development in the following areas:
- environment and infrastructure;
- efficient use of energy and impact on climate change;
- waste recycling;

- transportation policy.
BSU has the highest scores in international cooperation and education, as well as infrastructure development and transportation policy.
According to Mikhail Kuz’min, vice-rector for international relations of BSU, the presence of the university in international ratings is an important criterion that foreign applicants are guided by when choosing a place of study. Moreover, inclusion in the UI GreenMetric gives the university such advantages as the status of a leader in sustainable development, as well as increased opportunities for internationalization and development of international cooperation.
