Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Buryatia, three times winner of the Irkutsk Region Governor's Award, Honorary Worker of General Education, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Lev Dameshek was appointed Director of the Historical Research Center of Baikal State University.

According to Rector of BSU, Doctor of Law, Professor Viktor Ignatenko, the university administration intends to revive historical education. A Department of Russian history is going to be created at BSU.

"Revival of historical education is a strategically important decision. The BSU Center for Historical Research and the Department of Russian History will become a single complex, designed to develop historical science and education, patriotic traditions," noted Professor Lev Dameshek.
